First Ebola Survivors Cured?

Are the Ebola infected doctors and aides that were transported from Liberia the world's first survivors cured of the deadly virus? It is unlikely they were the first. This highly contagious virus has been halted with early treatment in the past. However, there is another aspect to this story that has received very little airplay.

Ebola is a rare but deadly virus that causes bleeding inside and outside the body. As the virus spreads through the body, it damages the immune system and organs. Ultimately, it causes levels of blood-clotting cells to drop. This leads to severe, uncontrollable bleeding. It occurs when you eat or drink something contaminated with any number of disease-causing bacteria, viruses, or parasites. And it can result in diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, which can be serious if prolonged, and can lead to dehydration. Most people rarely get sick from contaminated foods because their immune systems are strong enough to protect them. The disease, also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever or Ebola virus, kills up to 90% of people who are infected. (WebMD)

The virus is illegal to be transported worldwide. Yet those infected with Ebola apparently can be transported, making the worldwide ban on Ebola transport irrelevant. We don't want to knock the fact that the US Doctor and aides were cured. That is certainly fortunate for them. But we have had Ebola outbreaks in that region for decades. We have vigorously tracked down other viruses and eradicated them. As Ebola is a worldwide population threat, it begs the question, that if we had a cure, why haven't we been working toward eradicating Ebola?

Officials have tentatively responded to questions from the world demanding to know why we haven't shared knowledge of the experimental Ebola treatment. Officials say the treatment is highly dangerous and could kill the infected victims. Well, so does Ebola. Does it really matter which kills me first if I have had the virus long enough for it to have run its course throughout my entire body? These cured people had the virus well long enough for it to have been fatal.
