Ecliptic Embrace sketch. Original artwork by Laurie Tysinger. |
Here is an example of how differently a painting can turn out from it’s original sketch idea. Although I am happy with the painting, I would like to create more from the same concept. It is a favorite subject of mine.
It is, of course, the sun and moon in eclipse. It is intended to be symbolic of many things. The human personification of sun and moon is but one. There is also masculine and feminine energy, the yin/yang principle, darkness and light, darkness IN light, and light IN darkness. Still, this is only the beginning of such symbolism. It is rather iconic and archetypal, and has many meanings for many people.
There is a theme that I see in it, and it is the concept behind the project, and even the phrase “ecliptic embrace”. Although appearing together during an eclipse, the elusiveness of the sun and moon from one another cannot be over looked. They are the perfect “lovers”, except for one thing…they never actually “meet”. To me this speaks volumes.
